Ajah Ngonde was born with the uncanny ability to perceive the immaterial world.
His incessant nocturnal crying as an infant, despite being in good health, deeply concerned his parents. “He’s not finished bringing his stuff from the world beyond”, said a diviner to whom his parents had rushed. His “spiritual eyes” had to be closed. A liquid concoction was prepared. A funnel made of warmed plantain leaves was used to drop it into his eyes. This would solve the problem. So the diviner thought. Unexpectedly, little Ajah fell sick and almost died. Then an old wise man cautioned that if the eyes were not opened back, the infant would die. The process was reversed. That’s how Ajah lived.
He grew up an introspective and fastidious daydreamer who socialized as needed. A top student in school, he studied medicine and earned an “MD(hons)” degree from the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Yaounde 1, Cameroon. He also earned a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD.
His formative spiritual years were spent in a minor seminary, as his parents had wished him to become a Catholic priest. Nonetheless, it was his encounter with Christian mysticism years later that unveiled his spiritual talent and gave meaning to the strange events around his infancy. Sensing energy in environments and in people with stunning precision, understanding people’s intents, and knowing things about them without being told by any human were the gifts he demonstrated. These, he was told, were the hallmarks of a prophet(Seer)—one who stands as a lighthouse to offer clarity and warn people of pitfalls so they stay aligned to their ultimate purpose.
As one could expect, this spiritual gift influenced his medical practice, enabling him to engage patients on a deeper level. In the meantime, he faced the dilemma of either continuing medical practice or following the mystical path. Medicine prevailed due to social pressures. At one point, the decision to specialize in psychiatry seemed reasonable since this field felt closer to the spiritual world. However, he was rejected thrice for a psychiatry residency in the US. It then became clear to him that he must follow his soul’s path, the one that existed before formal education systems and social conformity took their toll.
“Spiritual Wellness and Being” is Ajah’s brainchild. The culmination of years of revelation, spiritual investment, keen observation of humanity, alongside ancient wisdom from cultures around the globe, to answer the enduring human quest for meaning and fulfillment.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the threshold of preventive psychiatry.
